One of my favorite meaningful phrases I took from Lou Holtz the famous college football coach. I heard him say one time that, "When all is said and done more is said than done." That seems to be a "pearl" of wisdom. I could
use almost any politician as an example for it seems to me most of them talk alot and accomplish very little.
Some of my other favorite sayings include:
"If you find yourself in a hole, first thing you need to do is STOP digging!"
"The harder you work, the "luckier" you get."
"Be quick but don't hurry."
"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose."
"Even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while."
"Teams do not go physically stale then often do go mentally stale."
"Failure is not final."
"It's what you learn after you know it all that counts."
"There is a difference between looking and seeing."
"An unexamined life is not worth living."
"The only place where success becomes before work is in the dictionary."
"Don't mistake activity for achievement."
"Success is the direct result of doing your best to become the best your are capable of becoming."
"Competitive athletics do not built character they reveal it."
"There is a difference between listening and hearing."
"We is more important than me."
"Sometimes less is more."
"Discipline is what you do for a person not to a person."
"IF" (My favorite poem by Rudyard Kipling)
"God gave you one mouth and two ears for a reason. You should listen twice as much as you speak."
"Don't speak unless you can improve on silence."
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly[a] with your God." .... Micah 6:8 (NIV)
*True confession: None of these sayings are original. I have taken them from a variety of sources.
